يتناول هذا الكتاب الأحداث الهامة لأنبياء الله ورسله من آدم النبي الأول إلى عيسى (عليهم السلام أجمعين)، مجمعا القصص من القرآن وأحاديث النبي محمد (عليه السلام) التي تم الإبلاغ عنها بشكل صحيح. والإيمان بجميع رسل الله وأنبيائه هو أحد أركان الإيمان في الإسلام. وإنكار أي منها هو نوع من الكفر الذي إذا لم يتوب يؤدي إلى النار. وكذلك فإن المبالغة في أي واحد منهم فوق المكانة المشرفة التي أعطاها الله تعالى لها، كما يفعل أتباع كثير من الملل، أمر خاطئ أيضاً. {آمن الرسول بما أنزل إليه من ربه والمؤمنون. كل يؤمن بالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله. ولا نفرق بين أحد من رسله. فيقولون: سمعنا وأطعنا. [نستغفرك ربنا وإليك المصير.} (القرآن 12: 3) {فاقصص القصص لعلهم يتفكرون} (القرآن 7: 176). قام المفسر المشهور والخبير في الحديث والمؤرخ إسماعيل بن كثير بجمع قصص الأنبياء من القرآن والأحاديث الصحيحة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم. . الكتاب فريد من نوعه في محتواه، حيث تناول الأحداث المهمة للأنبياء والرسل بكل صحة منذ آدم النبي الأول إلى عيسى عليهم السلام. أما النبي محمد فقد ألف المؤلف كتابا منفصلا عن سيرته. تمت ترجمة قصص الأنبياء لابن كثير هنا بواسطة حسين مقبول. هذه هي الطبعة الثانية المنقحة.
