This English translation of Ibn Hishām’s Qaṭr al-Nadā marks a significant contribution to Arabic scholarship. More than just a concise grammatical manual by one of the foremost imams of the later Arabic tradition, it offers readers a window into the very mindset of a classical grammarian.
The title, which literally means “Drops of Dew for Quenching a Thirsty Throat,” reflects its original purpose as an accessible primer. Yet, for today’s students of Arabic, it reads more as an intermediate-level text than a beginner’s guide.
