The Prophet صلی الله علیه وآلهِ وسلم said, "(ALLAH said), 'every good deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting; it is for Me. and I shall reward (the fasting person) for it.' Verily, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk." [Bukhari] As the status of this act of worship is so high, that it is essential to learn the rulings pertaining to this month of fasting, so that the Muslims may know what is obligatory in order to do it. What is forbidden and thus avoid it, and what is permissible so that they do not unnecessarily subject themselves to any hardship by depriving themselves from it. Hell is the final abode prepared by Allah, the Most High for those do not believe in Him, those who transgress against His Laws and deny His Messengers. It epitomises the scourge of punishment, filled with indescribable torment, pain and grief that has been detailed by Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). It is often observed from our righteous predecessors that they regularly took account of themselves lest they become negligent of the Hereafter and fall under divine retribution that'll be weighed against mankind on the Day of Judgement. When a fire torch was once lit for 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab, he felt angst at it’s burning heat, so he reprimanded himself, "How will you be patient if you encounter this O son of Al-Khattab!" He was of course, making a worldly parallel with the unparalleled Fire of Hell. Such self-reprimand was a true recognition reflecting fear of being cast into Hell as one of its inhabitants. And there is no more poignant way towards reform and turning back to Allah than learning about Hellfire and its unsettling descriptions. Mentioning its penalties and punishments entices a wise person to avoid the means leading to them: "Evil indeed it is as an abode and as a place to dwell." [Al-Furqan, 66] Imam Ibn Rajab gathered together Prophetic narrations and many statements from scholars that warn regarding the Fire, means to safeguard against it and the state of those who truly fear its consequences - with the purpose to practically awaken our inattentiveness and jolt our beings into positive action and treading the Path towards its opposite: Paradise. "Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord... It is these who hasten to good deeds and they are foremost in them." [Al-Mu'minun, 57-61]

The attribute of patience is less about the ability to sit tight and wait out any adversity or misfortune, and more about holding good etiquette and Islamic propriety while waiting. This includes persevering throughout the ordeal, not complaining about one’s condition (except to Allah) and recognising that Allah’s wisdom and decree necessitate holding good positive thoughts about Him. Allah, the Most High, presses the believers to seek His assistance through patience and prayer. It is a realisation that Allah doesn’t put you through hardship except to grant you relief, nor place a burden on you more than you can bear. The Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “When you indulge in al-‘inah (interest)  transactions and take hold of the tails of cows and become satisfied with cultivation and abandon striving in His Way, then Allah shall permit your humiliation and He will not lift it from you, until you return back to your religion.” Abu Dawud # 3455 He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish.” Someone asked: “Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?” He replied: “No, you will be numerous at that time; but you will be like the scum carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and place wahn into your hearts.” Someone asked: “O Messenger of Allah, what is wahn?” He replied: “Love of the world and hatred for death.” Abu Dawud # 4297 It is abundantly clear that the Muslims have been afflicted with great trials, their unity has been shattered, their strength has been exhausted and their ranks scattered. Today we are living in an age when the Muslims have reached a limit worse than which, no Muslim who believes in Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) could reach and it is one of humiliation and subjugation by others. Due to this and the sense of that humiliation which sadly reigns over all Muslim countries regardless of class or station we continually ask ourselves in our private and public gatherings and counsels: What is the cause that has led the Muslims to this lowly and despicable state and this humiliating and shameful condition? And what is the underlying reason for their arrival at this low level of debasement and wretchedness? Surah al Fatiha is the greatest chapter of the Qur'an, its like is not found in the rest of the Book or in the previous scriptures.
