Risalah – A Handbook on Maliki Fiqh by Imam Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani is a foundational guide to Maliki jurisprudence. Intended as an educational manual for youth, it covers core subjects such as Aqeedah (Islamic creed), purification, prayer, zakah, fasting, business transactions, family law (marriage, divorce, inheritance), and rulings on less common issues like hunting, criminal law, warfare, remedies for the evil eye, and remembrance of Allah. This important treatise, authored by one of the early pioneers of Muslim education, gained prominence in its time and continues to be highly regarded by scholars. Imam Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani, born in 310H in Al-Qayrawan (Tunisia), was a distinguished scholar devoted to educating Muslims during challenging times. Nurtured in the vibrant scholarly environment of Al-Qayrawan, he studied under renowned teachers such as Ibn al-Haddah, Ibn al-Labbad, and Habib ibn ar-Rabi. Over his lifetime, he authored around 35 works, including the monumental An-Nawadir wa’z-Ziyadat, recently published in a 15-volume edition spanning more than 8,000 pages.
