Perhaps the most well-known work of Imām al-Qudūrī, Al-Mukhtaṣar—also referred to simply as al-Kitāb—is a cornerstone text in Ḥanafī jurisprudence. It addresses around 12,500 issues, covering the full range of Fiqh, including not only acts of worship, but also business transactions, personal relations, and judicial and penal matters.
Abū ʿAlī al-Shāshī remarked about the book:
“Whoever memorizes this book is the most accomplished of our companions in memorization, and whoever understands it is the most accomplished of our companions in understanding.”
As is typical with concise manuals of Fiqh, Al-Mukhtaṣar does not usually present evidences or the reasoning behind rulings. These foundations and derivations can be explored in the more advanced works of the madhhab, and they presuppose some familiarity with uṣūl al-fiqh.
